As part of Plural Strategy’s ‘Days of Giving’ initiative, our London team volunteered at Stepney City Farm, an inspiring educational charity that aims to cultivate wellbeing through the practice and promotion of ecological and high welfare farming practices. The farm offers children and adults the chance to engage with farm animals, learn about food cultivation, and explore arts and crafts in a calm and peaceful green space within the city.
This marks the second year our team has participated in Stepney City Farm’s corporate volunteer programme. Days of Giving, organised by our employee-led Social Impact team, is Plural’s way of contributing to local communities, strengthening team bonds, having fun, and enhancing overall wellbeing through interaction with nature.
Tomer Yashiv, summer intern at Plural, shares his volunteering experience at Stepney City Farm.
What did your morning involve?
We began with a lovely tour of the farm and facilities and learned a bit about Stepney City Farm’s rich history. We then divided into teams and got to work.
Zhangqu, Elisa and Minnie re-organised the tool shed, Giulia and Will took charge of all things compost, and Charlotte and I led the charge in clearing a massive pile of woodchips with spades and wheelbarrows.
After a busy morning, we broke for lunch at Stepney City Farm’s brilliant café—it doesn’t get better than fresh, local produce—although a cheeky meal deal made its way to the lunch table (it wasn’t mine).
Changing from my typical morning of client calls to face-to-face time with farm animals (geese, chickens and pigs) was a pretty fun start to the day.
What made you want to be involved in the volunteering day?
Having worked on a farm for six months during a gap year, I was excited to get out onto a farm again and volunteer at a charity.
Stepney City Farm is an amazing charity and location in London. Their tours and workshops for schools, families and the general public mean that everyone can get out of the city mindset and reconnect with nature, animals, and the community.
What final thoughts would you like to share?
I would wholeheartedly recommend the experience of Plural’s ‘Days of Giving’.
Not only is it fun to be working with our hands, but it’s also really meaningful to contribute towards a place that’s fundamental to a community. You also get the chance to have fun with the team outside the office and build crucial relationships.
